An autocue, or teleprompter, is a display device that allows a speaker to read scrolling text from an electronic monitor – much like the old fashioned practice of reading from cue cards.  Simple autocues involve using autocue software with a laptop computer for display – see figure 1.  More elaborate studio setups will pair autocue software with formal autocue hardware.  In this case the text must be displayed in reverse by the autocue software so that it is readable when viewed on a mirror through which a video camera is directed – see figure 2.
